On Wednesday, March 6 the IDEA Center at George Fox University (GFU) had a five-year anniversary party. Most of the attendees were current and former employees of the IDEA Center.  Five years ago, the IDEA Center was formed in March by combining the academic planning and career services offices under Student Life.

Global Village Club, formerly known as International Club, is an organization devoted to building relationships between international and domestic students at George Fox University (GFU).

Early first semester, an informative meeting was held by Plant Services regarding the state of George Fox University’s (GFU) recycling, specifically the reasons for the removal of mixed recycling on campus. What came out of the meeting was not only answers and information, but a potential solution: the Stewards of Sustainability club.

Due to understaffing, the Bridge Café closed for two weeks last month. They have recently opened back up with modified hours and hope to return to normal hours in the upcoming weeks.

Among college undergraduate students, 23.1% of females and 5.4% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation, according to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network. This obviously puts women on college campuses at a much higher risk of sexual assault.

It’s finally week fourteen. At this point in your academic career, you can barely hold on. Projects, essay and meetings are piling up as your overall health deteriorates. One of the last lights to hold onto is the fact that after you finish finals winter break is here. You need a break now.

Meet your candidates for Student Body President and Vice President of Associated Student Community (ASC) for the 2019-2020 school year at George Fox University (GFU)! Alexa Hamaker, a political science and philosophy double major, is running with Kevin Tshilombo, a marketing and management double major. Kokanee Ellingson, a psychology major, is running with Meghen Elford, a sociology major.

On Jan. 26, Foster Parents’ Night Out (FPNO) had its monthly babysitting service for foster families in the area. Because babysitters for foster families must receive background checks and be trained in how to work with foster kids, George Fox University (GFU) partners with Every Child Oregon to train volunteers and run FPNO.

I won’t lie. I was a little disappointed to find out that Odd Moe’s Pizza was, in fact, not Mod Pizza, but the disappointment didn’t last long after I took the first bite of a cinnamon dough dunker. Odd Moe’s Pizza, a franchise that began in May of 1999, recently opened on Highway 99W across from the Newberg Chevrolet.

This past week was intended to be Random Acts of Kindness Week here at George Fox University (GFU). Put on by Student Activities, the purpose of the week was “to promote gestures of gratitude and kindness to peers, faculty and members of the community.”

When the U.S government partially shutdown on Dec. 21, no one knew for sure how long it would take President Trump and Congress to agree upon remaining budgets for the coming year.

I hate being late to class. The idea of being the last person to arrive fills me with dread. But to many students, tardiness does not seem like a big deal. Especially in my general education classes, it is not uncommon for students to show up late. Does tardiness bother professors as much as it does me?

There aren’t many places on campus you can go to see a sword fight, but on Wednesday nights in the Hadlock Student Center, there’s one every week.

On Nov 28, the George Fox University (GFU) Speech and Debate Club hosted an event called “Winning Arguments on Social Media.” Shannon Scott, associate professor of Communications, gave a presentation on social media arguments, explaining the conditions under which arguments can be constructive and how to respectfully stand up for your ideas in an online setting.

The IDEA center at George Fox University (GFU) is a familiar resource for many students. Located in the Stevens Center, the staff regularly assists students in their preparation to enter the professional world. Their student career coaching, however, has gone under the radar.

As the Christmas season approaches, the Ross building begins to transform. Home of the George Fox University (GFU) Music and Art departments, Ross is a hub for many of the school’s artistically-minded students. And so, as December rolls around, dozens of students in the Music department cover Ross and the adjoining Bauman Auditorium with Christmas décor.

On Nov. 14, Paige Lange, regional representative for HOPE International, gave a presentation at George Fox University (GFU) to promote sustainable charity. HOPE International is a Christian nonprofit organization focused on alleviating physical and spiritual poverty through Christ-centered microenterprise development.

Not many events at George Fox University (GFU) have seen an increase in interest this year, but the Spiritual and Intercultural Life (SpIL) center has an exception.

George Fox University (GFU) students tore down the doors at 8:00 p.m. on November 2 to watch the annual Lip Sync Battle after waiting in line for an hour to fight for the best seats in Bauman Auditorium. Students put together their performances in a few short weeks for a chance to win $500. This year, four impressive acts killed it on stage: The Clock Boys, The Robin Quakers, The Recess and the Pieces and the GFU Women’s Soccer Team.
