Social Justice in Music: Praise & Protest
In late January, Common Hymnal released a comprehensive collection of worship songs entitled “Praise and Protest” in reflection of both the stories of 2020 and those that have long existed in United States history. It is a collection of eighteen songs that have slowly been released over the course of last year. They explore Black narratives and the way in which Christians have a responsibility to involve themselves in social justice practices.
Are Christianity and Capitalism Compatible?
On October 14, Dr. Ross McCullough and Dr. Jekabs Bikis participated in a debate at George Fox University (GFU). Bikis argued that Christians should support capitalism, and McCullough argued that Christians should reject capitalism and aim for something better.
Portland is an “Anarchy District”... but not really
This memo seems to be a new episode installation in a series of words thrown haplessly into the panicked political fray. Words like “anarchy” hold significance when applied, yet the events in Portland are another instance of salient words losing all relative meaning when it suits the political narrative.
A Tribute to RBG
It is September 18, 2020, and my friend has confirmed that Ruth Bader-Ginsburg, associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, has passed away. I suppress a panic attack, but my shock at the news will not fade for several minutes.
Binge Worthy
These shows cover all walks of life and what it means to explore the world we live in today. When a show is deemed binge worthy it is a big deal and these are at the top of my list. So if traveling from Tiger zoos to the Outerbanks seems like your style, sit back and relax because you’ve got some binging to do.

It is easy during this time in quarantine to pray for health, for protection over our loved ones, and for the COVID-19 virus to swiftly go away. However, does God really want to hear so many of the same prayers? And which of our prayers are selfish instead of noble?
We’ve Got The Zoomies
Zoom has become the main form of communication for people all around the world. Before we were instructed to go into full online learning the only online video call service I was aware of was Skype. Well, the amount of time I spend on Zoom alone indicate that it is one of the most popular platforms for communication right now.
Learning How to Be at Home
I don’t like being home. It reminds me of all the things I used to be, and none of the things I am. School has been a haven of learning and freedom. I’ve been able to grow there in my own little microcosm, be it a dorm room or an apartment with a friend.
George Fox Culture: What’s Poppin’ at Fox?

King’s Speech: A Lecture by Professor Sunggu Yang
On Feb. 20, Dr. Sunggu Yang, an assistant professor of Christian Ministries, gave a lecture on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.’s theology on racial reconciliation, social justice, and peace. In the beginning of the lecture, Yang posed the question: why was King so hated among the other Christian leaders of his day if he preached the Gospel?
The Benefits of Learning Another Language
Modern technology has enabled rapid communication with other countries and cultures. It allows someone from California to travel overnight to Shanghai or Berlin for a business meeting the next day. Or, that person could have a video call with business associates from these countries at the touch of a button. This heightened interconnectivity between countries shows that learning a foreign language is more important than ever in our global community.
