Spring Break is At a Dumb Time

I haven’t paid much attention to my schedule for this semester. During the first semester, I was very aware of when the breaks were and when I was going home. This semester, through no fault of my parents, I have paid little attention to when I might be going home. However, I did notice that all of my friends at other schools were comfortably enjoying spring break before I was.

I also noticed how late Easter was this year. So, in my head, I concluded that my Christian university had decided to wait for Easter so that we could spend it with our families. I was wrong; my Christian university had decided to push spring break all the way to the 12th of the semester’s 15 weeks of class, and put it the week before a holiday many Christians celebrate with their families.

I am aware that nothing can be done about this planning debacle. However, the student government created the Crescent, and the Crescent hired me, meaning I now have a platform to just rant with little to no repercussions, so buckle up.

I feel like I don’t ask for a ton from George Fox University; I enjoy being here, and I consider coming to school here to be the best decision of my life. However, sometimes the things you love do stupid stuff. I love Easter, but more importantly for this rant, I love Easter with my family.

I don’t have a car so my parents need time to coordinate my transportation, which means I can’t go home unless it’s a longer break. Due to the tight schedule created by Easter being the week after spring break, I probably will not be able to go home. To quote “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” out of context: “Everything is not awesome.”

I understand that Easter is late this year. I can also understand why they didn't push spring break to include Easter. But spring break is already late in the year, why not push it back another week?

Despite my disappointment, at least I will get to celebrate Easter with my church here in Newberg, which could be cool. Maybe I should quote “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” in its actual context, “Everything's not awesome, but that doesn’t mean it’s hopeless and bleak.” Easter will be fine, but it is still annoying that spring break is close to Easter.
