How Does the Bridge Cafe Compare to Other Coffee Shops in Newberg?

By: Olivia Aragon

The Bridge Cafe is a convenient on campus spot for coffee and snacks that accommodates students paying with flex points or with their own money. How does the George Fox Bridge Cafe compare to other coffee places around Newberg?

For brevity's sake, I will only compare the price of a mocha at various coffee places in Newberg to the Bridge Cafe's price. Mochas at Starbucks range from $3.45 to $4.65 and the three sizes range from 12 to 20 fluid ounces. The Dutch Bros mocha ranges from small to large at $3.00 to $4.50, from 16 to 32 fluid ounces. The Bridge Cafe is actually more expensive, as the price from small to large is $3.95 to $4.95 with the size range from 12 to 20 fluid ounces. By tally, Dutch Bros provides the most coffee for your money and the Bridge Cafe is the most expensive.

Starbucks and Dutch Bros are big coffee chains, so is it really fair to compare them to the Bridge Cafe? If we instead were to compare the Bridge Cafe to a neighborhood coffee place like Chapters Books and Coffee, it’s evident that the Bridge Cafe is cheap for a neighborhood coffee shop. For example, Chapters’ price for mochas from small to large is $4.50 to $5.00 and Chapters’ size range is 8 to 16 fluid ounces. Coffee Cottage’s coffee sizes range from 8 to 20 fluid ounces and prices go from $4.45 to $5.95. So, 8 ounces is more expensive at Chapter’s and Coffee Cottage than 12 oz from the Bridge Cafe. If you’re planning to make the trek to one of the neighborhood coffee shops, perhaps consider the more cost-efficient Bridge Cafe on campus instead.

Overall, if you are looking to get some quick cheap coffee, Dutch Bros is the way to go because you will spend less money and get more coffee. But if atmosphere and dining space are more important factors in your coffee choice, it seems the Bridge Cafe is the best place to go.
