The Civility Project: 2022 Civility Pledge
On Nov. 29, George Fox University’s (GFU) Civility Project held an event for community engagement with their newly drafted civility pledge. The event was hosted by GFU Professor Ron Mock, alongside panelists Brian Groves, Phil Smith, Dan Roberts, and Paul Blattner. The civility pledge was crafted in August and September of this year for local election candidates and the general Newberg-Dundee community.
LGBTQ+ Pride flag burned at Newberg residence
At 3:15 a.m on Oct. 31, a pride flag of a Newberg resident was burned by a person who afterward gave a Nazi salute. The culprit was caught on a home security camera of the residents’ wearing a mask that only showed their eyes. The Newberg-Dundee Police Department is yet to identify and locate the suspect.
Cross Country Qualifies For Nationals for the First Time in School History
For the first time since George Fox University (GFU) joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the men and women's Cross Country teams competed in the national championship. The race was hosted by Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan.
Living Without a Home: The Issue of Homelessness in Newberg
Homelessness is quite the epidemic here in Newberg. Police have noticed a lot of people "car camping,": using their vehicle as their primary form of shelter. Many homeless people in town sleep in public parks or on benches, and some of these people are teens and young adults. The experience of being homeless is something that many people in our community face every day.

GFU Students Participate in Nationwide Walkout
On Oct 11, the Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP) and the Black Menaces led a nationwide walkout under the name “StrikeOutQueerphobia” at over 50 universities and colleges to protest Title IX exemptions given to religious schools over LGBTQIA+ discrimination.
Microwaves are no Longer Allowed in Dorm Rooms at George Fox University
On June 27, first-year students received move-in information and a revised list of items to bring and not bring to campus. Due to a new decision made by George Fox University (GFU) this summer, microwaves are no longer allowed in dorm rooms, marking them as a “do not bring” item along with candles and air conditioning units.
First Rise Conference Convenes on Campus
George Fox University (GFU) students and alums attended the first Rise Women's Leadership Conference on Sept.10 in Canyon Commons. This student-led conference seeks to empower women by connecting students with GFU alumni professionals, providing resources, and teaching them how to utilize their strengths.

On Mar. 31, three George Fox University (GFU) students―Mckenna Lloyd, Peter Reamy, and Kendall Stuart―flew to Atlanta, Ga., to participate in the Sigma Tau Delta yearly conference, to which Sigma Tau Delta members are invited to present a submitted and approved work.
