“Writer’s Block Party” is a short film being created by students in the Advanced Production Workshop class at George Fox University. 

George Fox University (GFU) students and staff participated in the eighth annual Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 15. Contrary to GFU’s Serve Day during fall semester, this volunteer opportunity is optional yet it is just as meaningful. The Day of Service intends to have students working as a community for justice and the service of others to honor King’s legacy.

Geneva García, a senior at George Fox University (GFU) never thought she would direct a film. She imagined herself editing or doing cinematography, but never directing. 

I am a professional procrastinator if there ever was one. As cliché as that sounds from a college student, I believe we can all relate on some level to putting off an assignment or reading until the night before its due, then flying into class feeling accomplished for the perfunctory work that we know will land us a solid “A-.”

When time came for Student Director Audrey O’Farrell to select George Fox University’s (GFU) winter play, she had no doubt “Tongue of a Bird” was going to be her story. The meaning, the strength of the all-women cast, the address of mental health and suicide—the message needed to
be heard.

In her first year at George Fox University (GFU), Heather Ohaneson is looking to bring a new voice and fresh perspective to contemporary politics in the classroom. She is passionate about civic engagement, very happy to be at GFU, and wants students to understand the importance of politics as it relates to our culture today.

Austin O’Donnell stood at the utensil station in the Canyon Commons at dinnertime, scanning
the room for someone to sit with. Someone waving caught his eye, and he saw a guy from his Bible class, someone with whom he had exchanged a few words, sitting at a table. He returned the greeting and went over to sit with him. 

Two George Fox University (GFU) students started their own clothing company in order to highlight individuality and destroy the division they see in the world today.

Poet. Professor of English. Banjo extraordinaire. These are just a few words to describe Bill Jolliff, long-time faculty member and active writer and researcher at George Fox University (GFU). Most students may know him as “the guy that went up on stage and played the banjo during chapel.”

Walking around the George Fox University (GFU) campus, one is bound to see many
baseball caps, a few beanies, and maybe a couple odd umbrellas. But only one student at GFU wears the hijab, the traditional Islamic head covering for women, and her name is Asma Al-Harami.

22-year-old twins Stephanie and Laurie Peterson are not only graduating from George Fox University (GFU) this semester, they have developed their own photography and videography business called The Pair Visuals.

Dearborn, Mich. – The street is dotted with traffic signs, advertisements, and names of businesses on buildings—not unlike every other U.S. city, except that many of these signs are in both Arabic and English.

Junior social work major Caitlin Fettig is one of the happiest and most positive people you will meet in your life.

If you see her walking across the George Fox University (GFU) Newberg campus, you might notice the extra spring in her step that makes her blonde frizzy curls bounce around and the cheerful, exclamatory greeting she has for every friend she comes across. She loves to express her love for other people through her work, her academics, and her faith.

NEWBERG, ORE. - Students coming from states like Southern California may have been excited to leave their hometown for the beautiful green of Oregon. For students who have been deprived of nature and rain, especially in drought-riddled states, the move means joyful days spent indoors to the soundtrack of rain and smell of freshly brewed tea.

NEWBERG, ORE. - “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness,” Anna Sovereign, a sophomore political science major at George Fox University (GFU), said, citing Mark Twain in reference to her recent trip to Houston to help with hurricane relief.

NEWBERG, ORE. - The Outdoors Club at George Fox University (GFU) is a community that hopes to get students to learn new technical skills in different environments, become aware of the things happening in and around Newberg, and get involved in the great outdoors.
