Serve Trip to Sierra Leone

On Saturday, students and faculty from the George Fox University (GFU) art and design department departed on a serve trip to Makeni, Sierra Leone. Those attending include senior McKenzie Young, senior Lillian Carver, and Jillian Sokso, professor of art and design. They are going to West Africa with one goal in mind: to teach women with disabilities the art of papermaking.

“Night to Shine” – An Evening To Remember

On Feb. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m., Newberg Christian Church (NCC) will be hosting Night to Shine, a prom designated for those with special needs. The Tim Tebow Foundation, which supports and sponsors the event, describes the night as a time for “churches to shine, the volunteers to shine, our honored guests to shine, and most importantly, God to shine!”

Coming Soon: Jane Eyre

Have you gone to see “Jane Eyre” yet? Have you seen it but want to go see it again? The winter musical is showing from Feb. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. This Thursday’s performance is free to George Fox University (GFU) students. “Jane Eyre” is a musical adaptation by Paul Gordon and John Caird based on Charlotte Bronte’s novel of the same name.

What You Can Do About The Refugee Crisis

On Nov. 27, George Fox University (GFU) students Megan Cecil, Evangelina Montelongo, Regan Hill and Meghan Elford hosted a documentary showing of “Soufra” as part of their participation in a social change class. “Soufra” is an uplifting film about a group of women in a refugee camp in Lebanon who overcome countless obstacles and start a catering company. Following the documentary showing was a brief presentation about how GFU students can get involved in refugee crisis relief.

Doubters Are Given Space For Discussion

The first Doubters’ Town Hall was held in Hoover 105 on Oct 14. Dr. Isaac Choi and Dr. Ross McCullough presented four arguments for the existence of God, followed by an interactive question and answer session. Students brought doubts and ideas, and they walked away with more questions and new ideas.

Co-Existing: The Science and Religion Club

Science and religion are two topics that are often viewed as opposing—can they exist in harmony together or are they too different? The Science and Religion Club, led by senior Greg Conan, exists on-campus to hopefully find an answer to this question by encouraging students to engage in a supportive environment where they are free to express their thoughts and opinions.
